If you are a member of a Trade Association, it is worth asking if they have a policy on Menopause.
Currently there is none but there are moves afoot to rectify this as it is becoming an ever more topical area of discussion.
In early 2022, the Women and Equalities Select Committee heard evidence from employment lawyers as part of its inquiry into menopause and the workplace. The discussion focused on whether the menopause should be made a legally protected characteristic under the Equality Act on the basis of evidence that some women have faced discrimination in the form of unfair treatment when going through the menopause.
The Committee heard evidence that both employees and employers have a lack of clarity of businesses’ obligations to employees going through the menopause and that increased guidance and awareness of the issues would be extremely helpful.
